Doc's Full Tilt Challenge
One of Doc's favorite players is Chris "Jesus" Ferguson. In 2007 Ferguson began his own "Challenge" on Full Tilt Poker. The challenge was to turn $0 into $10000. There were certain rules he abided by, such as:
He never bought into a cash game or a Sit & Go for more than 5 percent of his total bankroll; the only exception was at the lowest limits: he was allowed to buy into any game with a buy-in of $2.50 or less
He didn't buy into any multi-table tournaments for more than 2 percent of his total bankroll; the only exception was $1 MTT's
If at any time during a No-Limit or Pot-Limit cash-game session the money on the table represented more than 10 percent of his total bankroll, he had to leave the game when the blinds reached him
The challenge began in January 2007 and by September of that year, Ferguson reached his goal of $10000. So Doc thought it would be interesting to do a similar challenge. Doc is doing his slightly differently, such as:
Doc has no set monetary goal. The challenge is to see how long it takes to reach certain dollar amounts, such as $20, $50, and so on. At some point, Doc may set a monetary goal, but that is not the point.
Doc started with what he had in his account - A whopping $8.51!!! Doc plans to build up his bankroll, and keep a sustainable bankroll
When playing cash games, Doc will not exceed 25% of his bankroll. Since cash games allow you to leave at any point, Doc can control his losses to a certain extent. This is also useful on those nights when the cards are just not falling Doc's way. With that being said, once Doc hits the $50 mark, he will not exceed 10% of his bankroll. This challenge is about bankroll management, and in most cases you shouldn't exceed 10% of your bankroll
For tournaments, Doc will not exceed 10% of his bankroll. The only exception is at the lowest limits: Doc can buy into any game with a buy-in of $2.50 or less
You can follow Doc's progress below or open an account on Full Tilt Poker simply by clicking one of the banners and watch Doc at the tables. Doc uses the screen name Doc SCW. Keep in mind Doc usually plays well after midnight, so if you want to watch be prepared for some caffeine the next day!

Well after 2 months I have doubled my bankroll, which isn't bad considering I started the month of March on a bad streak. I lost $3 very early and built it back up to make a profit of $4.35 for the month. I should be playing some higher stakes, but alas I have not met my qualifications to do so. Oh well. But I have played some Omaha and 7 Card Stud, with decent results on Omaha and phenomenal results on Stud. Hopefully sometime in April I will pass the $20 plateau and be able to play some higher limits. And hopefully those higher limits means higher winnings!

A rather boring boring session as we played mostly 5 handed and, quite frankly, that is very boring. Had one pocket pair to start, which I ended up hitting a Full House with. Other than that I was anted and brought in to the point of no return. Oh well. It's still a winning session, although compared to my other Stud sessions it's a rather weak one!!!

That is not a typo, and I do think I will be playing Stud from now on! And the sad thing I never really had any monster hands or was ever afraid of being beat! Most of the players I was against were chasing all the way to 7th street to make their hand and would miss. Or they would a hand, only to be beat by me with a much better hand. A flush usually beats a pair right? Some of these guys never caught that. Or if I had 4 hearts showing, there is a good chance I have a flush and your straight is beat. If they want to play like that, I will gladly take their money from them!!!
And with this session I have broke the $20 mark! Finally!!! It took much longer than anticipated, but I'm glad to be at the next level. Now I can play higher limits, such as .02/.05 Hold Em or Omaha or .10/.20 7 Card Stud. Granted I'm risking more by playing some higher stakes, but I can also win considerably more. And I will more than likely play some different players as well.

I really wanted to play some .10/.20 Stud, but there were no open spots at any table, so I had to play the .05/.10 game. I didn't play very long, as everyone felt more like chatting than playing poker. I hit a flush towards the end, won a decent pot, played out a few more hands, and called it an evening!

Card dead all session. Didn't play the first 17 hands and got anted to death. I finally had 345 to start and 4th street gave me a 6. Hit 2 pair, no straight, and lost to rolled up trips. I figured the guy for Queens off the bat but not rolled up trips. Put in one ante and figured lady luck wasn't with me tonight and called it a session!
