Harrington On Hold Em

Volume 1

Strategic Play

By Dan Harrington

Poker has taken America by storm. But it's not just any form of poker that has people across the country so excited - it's No-Limit Hold 'Em - the main event game. And now - thanks to televised tournaments - tens of thousands of new players are eager to claim their share of poker glory.

Harrington on Hold 'Em takes you to the part of the game the cameras ignore - the tactics required to get through the hundreds and sometimes thousands of hands you must win to make it to the final table. Harrington's sophisticated and time-tested winning strategies, focusing on what it takes to survive the early and middle stages of a No-Limit Hold 'Em tournament, are appearing here for the first time in print. These are techniques that top players use again and again to get to make it to final tables around the globe.

Now, learn from one of the world's most successful No-Limit Hold 'Em players how to vary your style, optimize your betting patterns, analyze hands, respond to a re-raise, play to win the most money possible, react when a bad card hits and much, much more.

Dan Harrington won the gold bracelet and the World Champion title at the $10,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold 'Em Championship at the 1995 World Series of Poker. And he was the only player to make it to the final table in 2003 (field of 839) and 2004 (field of 2576) - considered by cognoscenti to be the greatest accomplishment in WSOP history. In Harrington on Hold 'Em, Harrington and 2-time World Backgammon Champion Bill Robertie have written the definitive book on No-Limit Hold 'Em for players who want to win -- and win big.

One of the best poker books written, it does one thing other books don't do, and thats dealing with situational play. For example, why AJ is a good play here and a bad play there. Why you should have bet this much here and this much there. Definitely will make you think more when you are playing, and in turn will improve your game! - Doc

If you are reading this book for tips & advice, you're not reading the right book. This book is a collection of stories from Doyle's younger days in poker. There is some good advice, but overall this is a book for those of you who just like to read. It has a alot of good stories, some of which we imitate when myself and some of my old school partners get together. Smooth game rules anyone? - Doc

The Theory Of Poker

By David Sklansky

The Theory of Poker by David Sklansky discusses theories and concepts applicable to nearly every variation of the game, including five-card draw (high), seven-card stud, hold ’em, lowball draw, and razz (seven-card lowball stud). This book introduces you to the Fundamental Theorem of Poker, its implications, and how it should affect your play. Other chapters discuss the value of deception, bluffing, raising, the slow-play, the value of position, psychology, heads-up play, game theory, implied odds, the free card, and semibluffing.

Many of today’s top poker players will tell you that this is the book that really made a difference in their play. That is, these are the ideas that separate the experts from the typical players. Those who read and study this book will literally leave behind those who don’t, and most serious players wear the covers off their copies. This is the best book ever written on poker.

This book is for those you want to take their game to the next level. This should not be your first poker book, as it is very complex on its topics and not an easy read. But if you have read the other books (Super System, Harrington On Hold Em, Phil Gordon'd Little Green Book) and want to take your to the next step, read this book! - Doc

The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King: Inside the Richest Poker Game of All Time

By Michael Craig

Self-made Texas billionaire Andrew Beal plays poker with nearly suicidal abandon. As one world champion player noted, "It's almost as if he's playing with disdain for the value of money." Soon after he arrived at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip in early 2001, he locked the world's top professional poker players in high-stakes, "heads up" battle. The pros combined their bankrolls and took on the newcomer one at a time; the minimum table stakes were a crisp $1 million. For three years, the Lone Star banker matched wits and hands with the world's best. Poker ace Michael Craig tells the story of this epic contest, which culminated in a May 2004 game where the bets started at $100,000 per card and where the ultimate pot could top $20 million.

A good read overall, especially considering what Andy Beal is worth and how he felt he had to take on the game. - Doc

Harrington On Hold Em

Volume 2

The Endgame

By Dan Harrington

Poker has taken America by storm. But it's not just any form of poker that has people across the country so excited -- it's no-limit hold 'em -- the main event game. And now -- thanks to televised tournaments -- tens of thousands of new players are eager to claim their share of poker glory.

In the first volume of this series, Harrington on Hold 'em: Volume I: Strategic Play, Dan Harrington explained how to play in the early phases of tournaments, when most players at the table had plenty of chips, and the blinds and antes were small. This book, Harrington on Hold 'em: Volume II: The Endgame shows you how to play in the later phases of a tournament, when the field has been cut down, the blinds and antes are growing, and the big prize money is within sight. Harrington shows you how to make moves, handle tricky inflection point plays, and maneuver when the tournament is down to its last few players and the end is in sight. He's also included a whole chapter on heads-up play, whose strategies up to now have been a closely-guarded secret of the game's top masters.

Dan Harrington won the gold bracelet and the World Champion title at the $10,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold 'em Championship at the 1995 World Series of Poker. And he was the only player to make it to the final table in 2003 (field of 839) and 2004 (field of 2,576) -- considered by cognoscenti to be the greatest accomplishment in WSOP history. In Harrington on Hold 'em, Harrington and two-time World Backgammon Champion Bill Robertie have written the definitive book on no-limit hold 'em for players who want to win -- and win big.
