Poker Lessons
Doc is looking into giving poker lessons. There would be 2 ways these lessons would work - classes and private lessons. These lessons are open to anyone who seriously wants to improve their game. Private lessons will be held based on the clients availability as well as Doc's availability. Please contact Doc for pricing.
Classes will be held Wednesday nights from 7:00 to 10:00 in Rochester. Cost for the class is $40 per person. Each class will last 4 weeks and will be limited to 8 people per class. Enrollment into classes is first come, first serve first paid. Classes will begin once enough people have enrolled
If these classes go well and the demand is there, we will add more nights as well as do classes for beginners.
So Why Take Our Poker Lessons???
Most of the players in our tournaments have a good grasp of the game. Most of these players have all the tools to become better players. Think of your game as a toolbox. What we want to do is help organize your toolbox and perhaps add a few tools you didn't have before. We're going to break down the game of Texas Holdem into its purest form - situational play. Every hand brings up a different situation, and you have to deal with each situation accordingly. Look at the table images below. Let's say you are sitting in the top left seat. Let's say you get a hand Like Ace Ten of Spades. When you are 1st to act, its a folding hand. When you are 3rd to act, it's a semi playabe hand. When you are the Cut Off. it may be a raising hand. And when you are Small Blind, you may be just completing the bet. Same hand, 4 different ways to play it because of the situation

Other Topics
While situational play will be one of the most discussed topics, there are many other topics we will discuss. Some of these topics include the following concepts, as well as many many other concepts and ideas.
Knowing Your Enemy
Know who you are playing and how they play before you even play a hand. Once you know their tendencies you can use that to your advantage and to their disadvantage. Many people will lose chips to players just because they don't stop to think about how their opponent plays and just concentrate on their own hand instead
Hand Selection
Just because you have 2 cards doesn't mean that they are playable. Many players do not stop to consider how strong their hand is, especially when you consider what situation you're in. Or they will over value the hand they do have, and lose chips in the process.
Betting And Raising
Most people don't know when to bet or how much to bet. Betting is one of the most important concepts in all of poker, yet many players do not understand this fundamental concept, whether it is the dollar amount or when to make the big bet
Pot Odds
Most people don't know what they are, and those who do don't know how to use them. Pot odds are another fundamental concept in poker that most players ignore, and those that think they know how to use them in reality have no idea how to use them
Reading The Table
Many players never bother to notice whats going on at their own table. Too often they will bet when someone is very short stacked, or continue to limp in to see a flop with an overly aggressive player at the table, or keep on betting with the tight passive guy calling your every move. Many mistakes at the poker table are made just by not paying attention or using common sense.
